I have decided to link up with Deanna Jump for her Let's Talk About Books Linky. I love getting to read others peoples blogs and getting to find out new book ideas and how they use them. One of my favorite books of all time is "A Bad Case of Stripes", the book talks about a young girl who is getting ready for school when she discovers something strange has happened. She realizes she has developed a bad case of stripes. The book follows her journey of battling with the stripes and how her parents try to get rid of them. At the end she realizes it's alright to just be herself. In my classroom, we draw a picture of ourselves with different kinds of stripes. The stripes/patterns represent things that make use unique. Then we write about the things that make use so unique. I love getting to see the students creating their pictures and writing. Sadly I don't have any pictures of their amazing work. I must remember to take a picture next time. What books do you enjoy reading? Yours Truly! |

Introducing Kenya/Assessment Training
Tuesday and Wednesday I spent in an assessment training. The training provided lots of insight and guidance into how to plan quality assessments for students. I left the training with a very sore brain and the feeling of being a bit overwhelmed. Now all I have to do is take what I learned and apply it to my teaching. I am pretty sure this is easier said than done but I shall try best.
Today I headed out to my classroom in hopes of being able to get into it and begin working on making it my own. This past year I taught second grade, which was a very rewarding and fun experience. We had some moves happen in our building and this year I am getting the opportunity to teach Kindergarten. I am very excited and nervous all at the same time. By teaching a new grade that means a whole new classroom, which normally wouldn't be that bad except for that fact that I have only a few days to get it ready for the students due to workshops and a visit back home. I know it will all come together with hard work and help.

Adventures With Kenya
I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Sunday. Yesterday, I decided to be productive and take my cute little Kenya on a walk. She has a love for sticks that surpasses most dogs. The thing about sticks is that the bigger and longer the stick the better. If the stick is a nice "normal" size we will play fetch with it, although most of the time she finds logs. As we were walking along she found an extremely long stick and decided it must be hers. As I look back at my 35 pound dog she is running down the path as happy as can be. Imagine a tight rope walker holding a balancing stick, then replace that image with a small dog and a huge stick. The stick must have stuck out 2 1/2 ft. on both sides of her mouth. She walked the entire rest of the path with this huge stick coming out both sides of her mouth. Throughout the walk she would turn around and check to see if I was still behind her, which caused her and her stick to almost topple over. Kenya was the happiest dog....until she had to leave that stick behind. I wish I had a picture of how cute she looked but sadly I did not have a picture taking device on me.
Tomorrow starts one of many workshops I will be attending this summer, it's going to be all about assessments. Do you have any workshops planned for this summer?

Why? Kenya and Kinders
I have decided to try blogging again. My first year of teaching I started a blog, which was intended to keep my family and friends back home updated on my life. Sadly after a short while I abandoned the blog. Since then my life has changed tremendously, I figured given all of my life changes now was as good a time as ever to try blogging again.
The inspiration for this new blog stems from two sources, which are my adorable dog Kenya and my new position as a Kindergarten teacher. The purpose of this blog will be to provide insight into my teaching and the adventures with my dog. Hears to trying out blogging for the second time.
